## Before you go to the counter

Many foreigners in Da Nang bank with Vietcombank, Techcombank, VPBank or TPBank. To open an account, banks usually ask for your passport with a valid visa or temporary residence card, a Vietnamese phone number in your name for OTP codes, and your local address.

Once you have an account, daily life gets easy: scan a VietQR code at cafés and markets, pay rent by transfer, and top up your phone in the banking app. Larger transfers in the app may ask you to verify your face.

This page teaches the language. Each bank sets its own documents and rules, so ask at the counter.

## The Da Nang version

Tellers in Da Nang are friendly and often a little Central in their Vietnamese. Listen for these.

- **chừ** = bây giờ, now: "Chừ em làm thẻ liền nha." (I'll make your card right now.)
- **ni** = này, this: "Anh ký chỗ ni nha." (Please sign here.)
- **mô** = đâu, where: "Quầy đổi tiền ở mô chị?" (Where's the exchange counter?)
- **rứa** = vậy, so: "Rứa là xong rồi anh." (That's all done.)
- **tê** = kia, that: "Anh qua quầy tê nha." (Please go to that counter.)
- **liền** right away: "Có liền!" (Coming right up!)

## Bank smoothly in Da Nang

- Register a Vietnamese SIM in your own name first: the bank sends your OTP codes there.
- Bring your passport, visa or temporary residence card, and your rental contract for the address.
- Use ATMs attached to bank branches, ideally during opening hours.
- Change money at banks and licensed exchange counters, and keep the receipt.
- Pay shops and rent by VietQR: scan, check the name, confirm.
- Save your bank's hotline in your phone for a lost or locked card.
